A happy heart
Your heart is your life force; the pump that keeps blood circulating in your body, delivers oxygen and nutrients to your cells and carries away waste products and unwanted carbon dioxide. Your cardiovascular health can be compromised by a number of factors – many of which are lifestyle related – with heart attacks and strokes ranking high on the list of preventable deaths in South Africa. One in three men and one in four women will suffer from cardiovascular disease before the age of 60 years.
Childhood cancer awareness
A diagnosis of cancer in a child is possibly one of the most stressful experiences a family can undergo. However, with early diagnosis and specialist treatment the outcomes can be very positive.
Cervical cancer – the facts
According to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), one in 42 South African women have a lifetime risk of developing cervical cancer. This cancer, which develops in the lower part of the uterus, does not develop suddenly. CANSA explains: "There is a gradual change from normal cervical cells through various stages of abnormality, to precancerous lesions and eventually to cancer – a process that can take many years."
You and your oral health

Mental health and wellbeing
The World Health Organization (WHO) describes mental health as a ‘state of wellbeing in which an individual realises his or her own abilities can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community'. It's certainly a state worth striving for, even though many of us might find it challenging at times. But what about those individuals who find it impossible? More than 450 million people suffer from mental disorders globally and in South Africa around 16.5% of the population is affected.
